Workplace Health and Safety Queensland will begin compliance audits of poultry processing workplaces from September with a view to cutting injuries for labour hire and visa workers.
The audits will include a comprehensive assessment of each workplace to ensure all workers, including 457 and 417 visa workers, have healthy and safe work conditions. Inspectors will take compliance actions where high risks are identified to ensure improvements to health and safety and injury management are made. Consultative arrangements and risk management systems between labour hire and host companies will also be reviewed to ensure that they are effective.
Following up early next year, providers that supply workers to poultry processing workplaces will be assessed to ensure workers’ compensation and labour hire licensing obligations are being met.
